What happened to Moonfruit?
Moonfruit was founded in 2000, offering customers an easy-to-use DIY website builder with cheap premium package options. However, Moonfruit came into difficulty in 2020 when Adobe Flash (the source code that powered Moonfruits editing software) was decommissioned, leaving customers unable to edit their business websites.
After more than five million websites and 230,000 online stores built in Moonfruit, the website providers parent company Yell decided to close Moonfruit down at the end of 2021.
This means that any customers with a free Moonfruit account have now lost their website, and paying customers have been left in limbo while their Moonfruit sites are migrated to Wix – a process that has been fraught with trouble.
